Documentary evidence of a post-medieval watermill

Worked flints including probable microburins and cores were found exposed by burrowing near the bank of the Thames. Mesolithic to Bronze Age flint blades, cores, microburins and scrapers.

Historical records of smock mill being moved to this site in the late nineteenth century and converted to windmill. A brick tower mill dated 1878. The sails were missing when it was photographed in 1934 which was mostly demolished in 1939.

Possible site of a thirteenth century windmill, suggested by nineteenth century placename.
