Roman villa and possible late Roman and Saxon cemetery site at Mantles Green Meadow - Finds including Roman pottery, coins, hypocaust tiles, tegulae and tiles dating from the 1st to 4th centuries together with indications of more than one building were found in the area of Shardeloes Manor, Lower Amersham. Human remains, possibly Roman, and Saxon glass beaker sherds were also found. Excavations have revealed agricultural buildings, corn drier, cobbled yards, roads and iron working activity. The finds suggest a second to mid fourth century date for the site.
