Description

Manorial history of Quarrendon, pedigrees of Lee family etc (B1).
In 1086 manor held by Geoffrey de Mandeville. Passed to the Earls of Hereford & Essex, Bohuns, Montalts, Earls of Warwick; granted to Richard Lee, 1499. Descended with Lees until 1802 when granted to James du Pre (manorial history) (B5).
Site visit 2000 photos. RCHME topographical survey reinterprets some of the earthworks (B13).
Geoffrey [de Mandeville] holds Quarrendon himself. It answers for 10 hides. Land for 10 ploughs; in lordship 4 hides; 4 ploughs there. 20 villagers with 8 smallholders have 8 ploughs. Meadow for 10 ploughs; woodland, 300 pigs. Total value £8; when acquired 100s; before 1066 £6. Swein, Asgar the Constable's man, held this manor; he could not sell except with his permission (B14).
