Reappraisal of origin of barrow as early Anglo-Saxon, the mound (incorporating residual material from an underlying Bronze Age occupation site) raised over a central inhumation and with a slightly later burial on the periphery. The central burial was largely destroyed by 17th century treasure hunters, digging down through the centre of the mound. See article for discussion (B15).
