Description

EXCAVATIONS IN ADVANCE OF DEVELOPMENT PRODUCED EVIDENCE FOR IRON AGE SETTLEMENT, & PART OF A MIDDLE SAXON CEMETERY. ALSO, EVIDENCE WAS FOUND FOR CONSIDERABLE MEDIEVAL ACTIVITY. THE POST-MEDIEVAL PERIOD WAS REPRESENTED BY PITS, &, FROM THE LATE C17 ON , BY ?BUILDINGS (B1).


SP81831382. Iron Age and Medieval occupation, and an Anglo-Saxon cemetery at George Street have been revealed by excavation. The cemetery is fairly extensive, as other inhumations have been found at: SP81781392, SP81781389; in Pebble Lane centred at SP81801387; SP81771385, SP81741385, SP81731385, SP81711385, SP81741383, SP81751382, SP81761381, SP81761380, SP81831385; and in George Street centred at SP81841380, SP81961361, and
SP81721416 (B1, B5,B6, B7, B8, B9).
