Description
No mention of Hedsor in Domesday, but it must have been included either in Bishop of Bayeux or Miles Crispin's lands, since in 1166 it appears as a knight's fee attached to the Honour of Wallingford (manorial history)(B1-2).
(SU 90758618) Manor House (NR) (Site of) (B12).
The remains of Old Hedsor House, at the Priory, East of the church, consist of three walls built of flint and clunch in chequer pattern; they now enclose a garden, but are part of the outer walls of old Hedsor House. On the SE wall is a stone with the initials RH and the date 1583 (B3).
The old Manor House, which was built by Roland Hynde in 1584, was pulled down about 1778 and a new one erected. This house has been likewise pulled down, and the present Lord Boston has erected another on the same site (B13).
'The Priory' garden is bounded by the outer walls of the 1583 house (See Antiquity Model) (B14).
Remains of architectural and historic interest include a cellar possibly pre 1584, three lengths of wall (as above), a fine Elizabethan doorway with original bricks, and a fine brew-house. (B15)
