Description
The Great Western & Great Central Joint Railway from Princes Risborough to Aynho opened to goods trains on 4 April 1910 and to passenger trains on 1 July 1910. Now operated by Chiltern Railways (B1).
History of the railway (B2-3).
The Aynho and Ashendon Railway was built in 1910 to bypass Oxford and radically shorten the London - Birmingham connection, which it did by 19 miles. Although built for express trains, it has been downgraded since the 1960's (B5).
