Description

EARTHWORKS REPRESENTING MED PART OF VILLAGE TO NE OF CHURCH SURVEYED BEFORE DESTROYED FOR HOUSING (B5).
AREA OF DESERTION CENTRED SP6669 0674 BOUNDED S & W BY BANK UP TO 3M HIGH BEYOND WHICH RIDGE & FURROW. FURTHER AREA CENTRED SP6679 0680 INCLUDES 1 TERRACE WAY WITH PROBABLE BUILDING SITE (B6).
An earthwork survey was undertaken in by John Moore Heritage Services north-east of the church on land to the north of The Willows. This identified one partial house platform and some natural banks and concluded that many of the earthworks in this area were of fishponds (B9).
A negative watching brief by John Moore Heritage Services in October 2012 during groundworks for construction of a stable adjacent to 17 Kimbells Close concluded that the site was outside the area of medieval occupation (B11).

SP 667068 A street and at least four house platforms which once formed part of a village to the NE of Shabbington church were surveyed by Bucks Co Museum before their destruction for housing development (See plan). Some 13th c sherds have been found during commercial excavations, also some Romano-British (B5).

(SP 666066) The old manor house is supposed to have stood in a field on the S side of the churchyard in which foundations of buildings have been frequently met with and encaustic tiles dug up. There are also the remains of 3 fishponds (B3).

An area of desertion centred at SP 66690662 is bounded on the S and W by a bank up to 1.3m high beyond which is ridge and furrow. Hollow ways from 0.5m to 2.0m deep are readily traceable as are three ponds (one now dry). A mound at SP 66620661 is 1.0m high but seems likely to be a windmill mound. Scarps and banks up to 0.3m high apparently represent three ill defined building sites. A further area centred at SP 66790680 incorporates three dry ponds of fish-pond type, one terrace way with a probable building site and one hollow way. This is adjacent to the desertion noted by Bucks Co Museum.
Surveyed at 1:2500 (B13).

A watermill established by 1683 and abandoned in 1814 may be represented by rectangular earthworks at SP66800673 (B12).

A linear earthwork due West may be a remnant of an associated leat (B14).
