Welcome to Buckinghamshire's Heritage Portal
Today we welcome you to our new online HER, Buckinghamshire’s Heritage Portal. We previously made our information publically accessible through Unlocking Buckinghamshire’s Past. The new heritage portal links directly to historic mapping, monument records, photos and documents held in the HER.
The portal is more compatible with new technology and can be easily accessed from home or on the go with mobile devices and is all free to view. Through the portal you can see details of all the monuments and historic buildings in the county. You can now post comments about individual sites or records on the monuments record page.
Search the map, type in a place name, or simply find your parish history with our parish summaries. We also have teaching resources on the portal for key stages 2 and 3, perfect for online learning, and there is a handy timeline, which outlines the prehistoric and historic periods in Buckinghamshire.
We will also be maintaining this blog to keep you up to date on recent discoveries, enhancements to the HER, and occasionally delving into our archives to give you a glimpse of things not online (The archaeology service has been maintaining the HER for nearly 50 years!).
So take a look and explore your local history and archaeology…there is a wealth of information to discover.
