Ackhamstead, a lost hamlet or chapelry first mentioned in 1242, has so completely lost its identity that the revised parish boundary between Hambleden and Great Marlow cuts across it. The extent of the former parish, a detached portion of the county of Oxfordshire, is shown on the Ordnance Maps before 1885 and on the 1st edition one-inch map the church is named 'Ackhampstead' (B16)
No trace of settlement was found in this area of mixed arable and pasture. According to the manager of Moor Farm small areas of"banks and hummocks" were levelled about 8 years ago in the field centred SU 8056 9072. (B17).
