The National Trust Survey of Stowe undertaken in 1989 lists this location for the Temple of Bacchus. Designed and built by Vanburgh in 1719. Unrendered, this classical structure was known as the brick temple. It was later painted within by Nollekens with Bacchic scenes. The structure was demolished by Stowe School in 1926 to make way for the new chapel (B18).
Evaluation in chapel car park did not reveal any remains of the garden features surrounding the Temple of Bacchus and no other archaeological features or deposits were uncovered apart from a 20th century pathway around the chapel (B19).
