(SP82191322) Earthworks (NR) (B2).
Entrenchment, possibly fragment of a manorial work near the railway, NW of Walton Court (B3).
Considered by Edwin Hollis, curator of Bucks Co Museum to be earthworks thrown up during the Civil War and used in connection with the Battle of Aylesbury, supposed to have taken place at Holman's Bridge (SP 81 NW 12) (B3).
Earthworks visible on A/Ps(B5).
This earthwork was destroyed during the construction of the new Aylesbury RDC offices. No rescue excavation was carried out but a few fragments of pottery from the site were identified by Mr Gowing as medieval; nothing further which would help to establish the true identity of the earthwork is known (B6).
Walton, Aylesbury, Bucks. Saxon and Medieval Village. Two grubenhausen were excavated. One contained grass-tempered and decorated sherds; in the other, possibly later in date, were found two bone combs. A palisade trench of late Saxon date containing St Neots type ware was excavated. The main feature visible on the site before excavation was shown to be a 13th century manorial boundary ditch. Earlier features included a low ditched mound, at least 50m long, interpreted as a rabbit warren of the 12th century, and rock-cut pits of the early 13th century (B7 and B8).
A scatter of Romano-British pottery, but no structures of the period, was found during excavations inside the earthwork.
Detailed report published in 1976 (B9).
