Description

Ledburn manor, held in C15 of the De La Zouch family, may have originated in some of the small holdings in Mentmore. First recorded holder is John Enderby whose widow Maud died in 1474. The manor was sold in 1507 to Thomas Pigott. From Pigott the manor apparently passed to William Byllyng, who conveyed it in 1529 to Sir Edmund Peckham, from whom Joan Brook, widow, obtained it in 1546. She conveyed it in the following year to Thomas Duncombe, and from his kinsman John Duncombe it came, in 1563, to Thomas Theed. After this date there is no record of this manor, the greater part of the land at Ledburn being evidently held with Mentmore. Although the Theed family continued to hold land here for more than two centuries, their holding did not apparently rank as a genuine manor (B1).
NGR to manor house (B4).
