Terrace

Terrace is the term used to describe a flat area cut into uneven ground in order to use that ground in some manner, such as for building houses or for garden features, such as the terrace constructed at Notley Abbey.

A terrace is also a row of attached identical houses built at the same time. They started to be built in the seventeenth century and became common in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries such as the terraces at 17-21 Wycombe End, Beaconsfield.
