Leat

A leat is an artificially constructed open water channel, often lined with wood or stone. Leats are usually associated with water mills but may also be used to aid drainage or to provide water to anywhere that it is needed. Most leats date to the post medieval period. Examples of recorded leats in Buckinghamshire are attached to mills at Maids Moreton and Longwick, for instance.
