Monument record: 0052200000 BURNHAM ABBEY (Building)Augustinian Burnham Abbey founded 1289, suppressed and partially destroyed in 1539, restored 1914 - Post-Medieval house incorporating remains of Augustinian nunnery founded 1266, dissolved 1539. Restored in 1915 as a convent for nuns. Infilled moat discovered. Flint and chalk rubble with 16th century brick restorations and additions; hand made tile roofs. Chapter House, Sacristy, and parts of Frater and Infirmary remain. East range of the cloister with 6 small 2-light casements, one larger 2-light casement and one extended window formerly loft entrance, all with leaded lights. Chapter House with 13th century moulded 2-centred arched doorway and the room itself with 3 lancets in its recently extended east end. Sacristy with 16th century windows and fireplace. Original south wall of Frater with 16th century doorway and fireplace. Infirmary with 13th century lancet windows, blocked doorway and 16th century windows. The conventual church foundations have been located by excavation.
