Artefact conservation

Buckinghamshire Archives has advice on conservation of paper and parchment documents on its website.

The Discover Bucks Museum may be able to provide advice on conservation of artefacts or suggest where to go for professional conservation services.

Monument and landscape conservation

Archaeological conservation advice, for instance for landowners who have archaeological monuments on their land, can be provided by the Council Archaeology Service. Historic England should be contacted for advice on managing Scheduled Monuments.

Government grants for conservation of farmland features and habitats are available from DEFRA through Agri-Environment Schemes such as Countryside Stewardship and Sustainable Farming Incentives.  

Archaeological Notification Areas are zones within which planning applications are automatically referred to the Council Archaeology Service for comment. More information can be found on the Council Archaeology Service website.

Building conservation

Buckinghamshire Council has a duty to manage Conservation Areas in Buckinghamshire. Historic England maintains a Heritage at Risk register for all Grade I and Grade II* listed buildings, scheduled monuments, registered parks and gardens in need of repair or restoration. Save Britain’s Heritage keeps a register of Grade II listed buildings in need of restoration.
