Description

A LENGTH OF DITCH CROSSING SITE (:03) TURNED AT RIGHT ANGLE IN MIDDLE OF SITE (:04). ALMOST CERTAINLY A CIVIL WAR DEFENCE? (B3).

SP81651359. During excavations in the grounds of The Prebendary in 1984-5, a defensive ditch cutting several later Medieval features was discovered. This is almost certainly a Civil War town defence, dateable to 1642 when Aylesbury was defended by Parliamentary forces against the Royalists (B11 and B4).
