30YDS FROM CROFT (CASS 01796) ARE REMAINS OF OLD MANOR-HOUSE, A PORTION OF WHICH IS STILL OCCUPIED BY COTTAGERS (B2). MR GREEN SAYS TRADITIONAL MANOR HOUSE SITE IS AT NGR & CLAIMS LOCATION IS SUPPORTED BY FIND OF AN IRON FIREBACK WITH ROYAL COAT-OF-ARMS, DATED BY LUTON MUSEUM TO PRE-1400 (B5).
