Description

ANCIENT CHAPEL TAKEN DOWN TO BUILD INFANT SCHOOL. FEW NOTICES ON RECORD OF THIS CHAPEL (B1).
SEEMS TO HAVE BELONGED TO BOROUGH. DISSOLVED AS CHANTRY CHAPEL 1547 BUT CONTD GRANTS & PRIEST. LONG DISUSED BEFORE PULLED DOWN (B2,B7).
FOUNDED BEFORE 1300; DISSOLVED ?BEFORE 1547 (B5).

A chapel of St John the Baptist formerly stood on the Tring road at Wendover. It seems to have belonged to the borough, but was dissolved as a chantry chapel in 1547; after which it passed through various hands. After long disuse it was finally pulled down and an Infants School built on the site (B7).
The only school building in this vicinity is at SP 8697 0782. It was erected in 1879 and was a junior school before closure (B8).
