NOV 914 EDWARD THE ELDER (899-925) BUILT BURHS ON BOTH BANKS OF OUSE AT BUCKINGHAM TO CONTROL ROUTES TO NORTHAMPTON, BEDFORD & OUSE VALLEY. LOST ITS MILITARY SIGNIFICANCE AFTER 942 (B1,B6).
MENTIONED IN BURGHAL HIDAGE, C10 (B4,B7).

NGR TO PRESENT TOWN CENTRE.
