IN 1588, GEORGE TYRELL WAS LICENCED TO IMPARK AN AEA OF 500 ACRES AT THORNTON; IT HAS NOW (1867) BEEN DISPARKED (B1). BOTH SAXTON & SPEED SHOW THIS PARK ON THEIR MAPS (B3). NB; A REFERENCE EXISTS TO THE COMMON OR GREEN OF THORNTON, 1535, FORMERLY ENCLOSED BY A STONE WALL (B2). NGR TO ?PARK PALE.
