Description

Dimensions - Radius 0007 m
Plan Form - ANNULAR
RING DITCH VISIBLE ON MOST A/P'S, BUT RATHER INDISTINCT DUE TO GEOLOGICAL DISTURBANCE IN THE AREA. PROBABLY A PLOUGHED-OUT BRONZE AGE ROUND BARROW, BUT IRON AGE POTTERY FINDS, AS WELL AS EARLIER MATERIAL, MEAN THAT IT COULD BE AN IRON AGE HUT CIRCLE (5).
During the construction of the Eton College Rowing Lake and the Maidenhead, Eton and Windsor Flood Alleviation scheme, this site was evaluated and excavated by Oxford Archaeology (Area 6). Dug into the the silt covering the gravel, the ring ditch was found to be only 0.3m deep with a wide opening on the N side (B1).
