Description

Plan Form - OCTAGONAL
Grade II. Garden pavilion. Circa 1757-60, altered C19, in process of repair 1984. Feature of a landscape garden designed by Capability Brown. Wooden building in oriental style. Semi-octagonal with 5 open sides and boarded rear wall. Each corner has cluster of slender shafts with moulded capitals, on plinths with moulded cornices. Altered entablature has wrought iron scroll brackets and wooden frieze pierced with geometric patterns. Stone flag floor. Tented lead roof with crescent moon finial is missing. Illustrated in Country Life 1949 July 8th (B8).
