Description

Grade II. Small grotto. Circa 1757-60 with C19 alterations. Feature of landscape garden by Capability Brown. Brick, partly covered by earth mound. Square chamber, the inner walls plastered and inset with shells, fossils, quartz and tufa. Vault missing. Front originally had stone facing, fragments of which remain on site. Front now has short curved flanking walls of brick faced with flint, probably C19. On island (B8).
