Description

IT WAS REPORTED TO THE REV C N WHITE THAT POTTERY WAS FOUND (IN AYLESBURY CEMETERY, NEAR THE ABOVE NGR) BUT HE WAS NOT SHOWN ANY & 'NOTHING IS NOW BEING FOUND ON THIS SITE' (B3).
Trial trenching and metal-detector survey carried out by AS&C in November and December 2009 in advance of a further extension of the cemetery failed to find any evidence of burials and little evidence of activity before the medieval period. Fragments of sheep bone and a small number of pottery sherds possibly of Saxon date were recovered from a thin layer in Trench 17. See report for detail (B7).
[Additional NGR to Trench 17].
