Description

OS draft map marks 'Elliot Mill' (B2).
1825 map marks 'Chesham Bois Mill' (B3).
Watermill recorded in Domesday Book attached to Chesham Bois manor. Mentioned in 1310. Subject of a dispute in 1535 (B4).
Reference to Bois Mill in 1769 (B5).
Mill race survives, mill building does not (B7).
Mill ceased working c.1867 (B6).
Major excavation of stream bed through Bois Mill by Environment Agency. Old brick retaining wall exposed on S side of stream and found to be built apparently on driven wood piles c.10cm in diameter (B9).
Detailed historical notes and 1930s condition. Mill house remained in 2006 (B12).
