Description

1788 map marks 'Paper Mill' approx at NGR (B2).
An old paper-mill, at NGR (B6).
Sun Fire Insurance number 696077, 1799 (B8).
No machinery remains. Premises used as offices by Messrs. McMinn & Co (B9).
A flour & paper mill. By the 1860s papermaking had ceased at Weir House; it continued in use as a flour mill. The last miller died in 1936 (B10,B12).
By the 1760s the mill had been turned over to grinding rags by George Mowdray, paper maker. A Fourdrinier continuous roll paper-making machine was installed by the proprieter John Allnutt at Weir House Mill in 1819. The paper machinery was removed in 1858 (B14).
