Description

Dimensions - Width 8m, Length 30m.
Plan Form - Rectangular.
1825 map marks 'Weirhouse Mill' approx at NGR (B3).
'Weirhouse Mill (Corn)' marked at NGR (B4).
Flour mill, on Chesham Higham manor (B5).
Grade II. Mainly early C18, restored and enlarged. Painted weatherboarding, some brickwork, tiled roof. 2 storeys, formerly T plan with short wing spanning mill stream, now curtailed to L plan by demolition of wing over stream. Weirhouse Mill and the Mill House form a group (B6-7).
No extant machinery; now offices (B9).
Papermill in C18 (B10).
Ceased working c.1935 (B11).
Detailed historical notes, 1930s condition and photograph. Working in 2006 (B13).
Paper machinery removed and mill reverted to corn milling in 1858 and operated until the 1940s. The charcteristic white louvre boarding of the paper drying sheds is visible even today. Now occupied by hardware wholesalers (B14).
