Description
The site of Wotton Station, opened in April 1871 on the Brill Tramway which linked Brill with Quainton Road. The original halts, mere earth banks, were replaced with low platforms in ?1894. Except for the stations at Quainton Road, Wotton, and Brill, all were request stops. Both Westcott and Wotton stations had permant staff. In later years the stationmaster of the adjacent LNER station (opened 1905) was responsible for the Brill branch station. In 1899 the Brill Tramway came under the management of the Metropolitan Railway, and eventually in 1935 London Transport. The London Passenger Transport Board closed the Quainton Road to Brill Service from 1st December 1935. [Photo of Wotton station in about 1935] (B7).
