Description

The English Heritage survey of Stowe undertaken in 2001 notes several small hollows lying to the west of the Conduit House in the Deer Park at Stowe. Most are roughly circular, about 2m in diameter and 0.4m deep. One, at SP 6720 3837, is larger, sub-rectangular, and measures 12m by 5m and is about 0.4m deep. The features are all tree holes. Some are cut into broad ridge and furrow. They are part of a sinuous line of trees, planted in the mid- to late 18th century, and shown on the 1843. The trees ran from west of the Conduit House to just south of the park pale (20).
