Description

Geophysical survey carried out by SUMO in May 2024 identified a small number of features of archaeological interest. In Area 5 two ring
ditches, the larger of which corresponds with a cropmark seen in earlier aerial photos, were identified along with further ditch-type anomalies and a possible rectangular ditched enclosure. Numerous weak linear, curvilinear and sub-circular trends were of uncertain origin and could be archaeological, agricultural or natural features. Possible areas of gravel extraction were also identified. In Area 1 linear anomalies interpreted as modern field boundary ditches (shown on 1937-1961 OS maps), ploughing and land drains were identified. A strongly magnetic linear anomaly running NE-SW across Area 5 is an underground service pipe [presumably the Iver-Arkley water main]. See report for detail (B5).
