Description

GRADE II. REMAINS OF COLEN CAMPBELL'S GREAT ROOM OF 1724 ALTERED AFTER FIRE C.1840. STONE. PROJECTING ENTRANCE WITH SEMICIRCULAR ARCH FLANKED BY PAIRED ROMAN DORIC 1/2 COLUMNS. ENTABLATURE AND PARAPET WITH BALUSTRADE ACROSS PROJECTING FRONT; ROOM INSIDE HAS SHALLOW DOMED CEILING; TO EACH SIDE, ONE DOUBLE-HUNG SASH, GLAZING BARS, FRAMED BY STEPPED STONES, HEAVY FLAT STONE ARCHES, BROKEN PEDIMENTS. INSIDE ROUND THE BASE OF THE DOME AND FIXED TO THE WALLS IS A FINE COLLECTION OF OLD DUTCH TILES (B3).
Condition survey carried out in October 2007 by Oxley Conservation concluded building in a poor condition although apparently not much changed since 1999, but requiring urgent repairs. See report for detail (B11).
