Monument record MBC43597 - Little Horwood Airfield, Site No 4, Great Horwood

An RAF Camp of World War II date is visible on historic aerial photographs as extant buildings and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located on the both sides of Pilch Lane and centred at SP 76826 31190. Site No 4 at Little Horwood Airfield is an accommodation site for officers and sergeants with latrines, a mechanical and electrical plinth (electricity substation), a picket post (sentry box) and ablutions block. All buildings are Laing Huts apart from the latrines and picket post which are timber buildings. The site appears to be in use as an equine establishment on modern aerial photographs and no sign of the buildings is visible on the north of the Lane but those to the south (the ablutions buildings) appear to remain; lidar visualisation shows the footprint of some buildings are still visible in places.
