Monument record 0141103000 - SEELEY'S FARM

MR ELVEY STATES THAT WITHIN MEMORY OF OWNER, FARM WAS ONCE COMPLETELY MOATED, & PARTS REMAIN. NO DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THIS (B2). MAP SHOWS WATER S OF FARM, PARALLEL TO LANE. THIS STILL EXISTS AS DITCH. NO OTHER GROUND REMAINS, BUT BUILDING HAS ENCROACHED. PROB NOT MOAT (B4). NGR TO CENTRE OF FARM.



According to the owner of Seeleys Farm (SU 935914), Mr Pitcher, the farm house was completely moated within his memory and parts still remain.
RCHM ascribes the house to 16th c. (B5).

The only significant feature in the vicinity of Seeleys Farm is a dry overgrown ditch c 4.0m wide and 1.0 m deep, extending in an E-W direction from approx SU 93479142 to SU 93529142. This appears to have formerly extended westwards but has been destroyed by development.
The purpose of this ditch is unknown, but there are insufficient remains to identify this as a moat. Mr Pitcher was not available at the time of investigation.
