Description
(SP 948148) A late pagan Saxon cemetery, containing 8 graves, was revealed by top soil clearance on land owned by the Tunnel Cement Company. It was excavated by the Manshead Arch Soc in 1961, and the grave goods including a spearhead and an iron knife are now in Aylesbury Museum - Acc No 127/61. SKELETONS & SPEARHEAD, THEN 6 MORE SKELETONS IN A SINGLE ROW, FOUND, THEN A WHOLE CEMETERY 90X20FT. 8 GRAVES UNCOVERED. SKELETONS WERE ADULTS, IN SHALLOW GRAVES. LATE PAGAN SAXON (B1).
The cemetery has now been completely destroyed by chalk quarrying, and the finds are in Aylesbury Museum (B2 and B5).
