Summary

A Bronze Age flanged axehead was found in a ditch in a brickfield at Hazlemere in 1913. It is now in Buckinghamshire County Museum, Aylesbury. A few sherds of Roman pottery were also found.

Dimensions - Length 100mm, Width 51mm, Thickness 11mm.
AXE OF BRONZE WITH 90% COPPER CONTENT: EARLY BRONZE AGE. SLIGHT STOP-RIDGE & SLIGHT HAMMERED FLANGES (B1-3). ILLUSTRATION (B7)(B5-10).


A flanged bronze axe was found in a ditch in a brick field at Hazlemere (SU 8995) in 1913. It has only the faintest indication of a stop-ridge and slight hammered flanges; part of the collection of A E Toplin, of High Wycombe and now on loan in the Buckinghamshire County Museum, Aylesbury.

A few fragments of Roman pottery [0010102002] were also found (Acc No 297/13). The ditch was only about 2 feet wide and 2' deep. (B3)
