Description
AREA TO S OF HILFORT SUGGESTED AS SITE OF BOLEBEC'S CASTLE (MEDIEVAL) WHICH INCLUDED A STONE KEEP. LACK OF DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE IMPLIES THAT IDEA OF MEDIEVAL CASTLE HERE IS LEGENDARY (B5-6).
SITE IS AT CENTRE OF CAMP: IN HEARNE'S TIME (1700) FRAGMENTS OF BUILDINGS REMAINED. F M UNDERHILL FOUND BRICK IN 1945 (B7).
Geophysical surveys in the interior of the hillfort failed to find any evidence for Bolebec's castle (B18-19).
