Description
The hutted World War 2 military camp at Grendon Hall was taken over by the Prison Commission in 1953 and opened as a prison, known as HMP Spring Hill. The inmate accomodation is in the hutted camp and the prison is operated as an 'open prison' (B3).
On 1st January 1953 Grendon Hall and the adjacent hutted military camp were acquired by the Prison Commission and the accommodation was adapted to serve as an open prison, HMP Spring Hill. The house now [18th July 1996] serves as offices for the prison. The hutted accommodation has been partially replaced by modern huts or has been converted to provide single rooms for inmates (B5,B9).
