Description

A magnetometer survey carried out by Archaeological Surveys Ltd along a proposed electricity cable route from Iver to Slough identified anomalies interpretted as linear features that may have been associated with the WWII anti aircraft batter, and a possible pit. See report for detail (B1).
2 pit clusters towards the western end of Area 2, c9m apart. Both clusters contained pottery indicating a date of the 12th to 13th centuries. Ditch Group 3- three parallel, NW-SE aligned ditches [9, 10, and 11]. Continue SE beyond Pit Cluster 1 as ditches [12 and 16]. Likely these represent multiple ditch re-cutting events, which resulted in a boundary shift of approximately 4m. Pottery of 12th-13th century date, from the upper fill of one of these ditches may suggest backfilling around this time prior to the digging of pits in Cluster 1. It is possible that Ditch Group 4 with Group 3 form 2 parts of a broadly NE-SW and NW-SE aligned field system or enclosure (B3)
