Description

Located in areas of Cockerell Pavilion Garden was a deposit of clean orange sandy gravel. It was uncertain if this was natural substrate or an imported material for levelling. An E-W aligned ditch, 2.57m wide and 0.84m deep, was located at the southern end of the garden area. It contained mid grey-brown sandy clay loam. Likely a drainage and boundary function of unknown date. Walls 215 and 217 possibly represent the earliest structural remains in this area. Wall 215 was 0.50m wide and formed a rightangle in plan forming a S-W corner of a structure. Wall 217 likely represents an eastern continuation of 215 (B25).
