Description
AREA B- Curvilinear and rectilinear ditches form part of an enclosure, with further possible linear anomalies within the area. These represent parts of an extensive network of features. The enclosure measures at least 150m by 105m. More tenuous linear anomalies suggest that the complex extends further to the north-east. Further extension of features east of the main enclosed farmstead 07611 (B1).
North-east aligned enclosure ditch [6205] was 1.34m wide and 0.41m deep, and contained moderate amounts of Iron Age and Roman pottery, and fragments of animal bone. To the north of [6205] was a concentration of small pits and postholes; Iron Age and early Roman pottery was recovered from these features. Further features identified by the trenching to the north-west (B2).
The trackway exiting the eastern side of the enclosed farmstead 07611 has been identified continuing east. Ditches and pit-like anomalies have been identified by the trenching, also dating to the late Iron Age to early Roman period (B2).
