This milestone is on the Wendover and Buckingham Turnpike Trust road of 1721; now most of the route is the A413. 1766 map of Buckinghamshire shows a complete set of 21 milestones from London 36 on Aylesbury Road in Wendover, to London 57 near new Tescos on Aylesbury Road in Buckingham; 15 now survive. There were some piecemeal replacements. The Wendover to Buckingham Trust milestones are carved with a pyrimidal top, square cross section, face angled to road with incised capital lettering on two faces and a wedge cut out of the back. 10 stones are now located on the west side of the road, five on the east side; randomly scattered - possibly due to not being replaced in right place after WW2. The original milestones were moved 300 yards north of where located in 1766 because of shortening of routes to London further south. 116 milestones records surviving in Bucks out of a possible 230 milemarkers known from old records. Part of an important route from London through Uxbrige and Aylesbury and Buckingham to Banbury from London. In 1826 creation of New Road, now Aylesbury High Street, moved the turnpike route into Market Square. (B3).
