WHILE LAYING GAS MAIN FROM GASWORKS TO TAPLOW MILLS THROUGH LEY CHEQUERS, ABOUT 100M FROM RIVER BANK, WHAT LOOKED LIKE LARGE BED OF CONCRETE UNCOVERED. RUTLAND BELIEVED IT TO BE THE SITE OF A MONASTERY (B6-7).
UNLIKELY TO BE MONASTERY: NO RECORD. COULD BE GRANGE OR CELL? OR PERHAPS ROMAN.(B8)
