In Peter Gullands extensive study of The Toll Roads of of Buckinghamshire 1706-1881 with their connections into neigbouring counties 2017 this milepost was on The Aylesbury Thame and Shillingford Turnpike Road 1770 p.193 road 14. This looked after 4 branches 3 from Thame one from Aylesbury one to Shilingford and one towards Wheatley and Bicester mostly A418 today. This branch started from Aylesbury it wqas late to put up stones it and needed a new act of of 1791. No milestones were on the other branches were put other 3 roads from Thame this milemarker at Dinton was the on the OS. At an unknown date between 1800 the stones were replaced by metal posts map says that all in plce on Wheatley branch by all gone by 1960. During the 2nd WW war milemarkers were hidden fo security reasons some time not put back or in wrong place one survives on this branch outsde Oxford golf course. After the trusts closed in 1880s 1890s missing milemarkers on some roads were replaced wth what the Milestones Society callls Bucks Pressings standardised metal posts with two white faces and black writing.
