Description

A simple latin cross on a three stepped base, 3.45m high, constructed of Bath stone commemorates 11 parishioner who died in WW1 and 5 in WW2. Constructed by Messrs Newman and Harper, builders, and dedicated by the Bishop Suffragan of Buckingham in 1920. In good condition (B1).

The war memorial was dedicated on Whit Sunday, May 23rd 1920. The churchyard had been extended (Lord Rothschild donating the land in about 1915) and the new piece was consecrated by the Bishop on the same day. Further information on some of the individuals commemorated (B4).
Grade II. First World War memorial, erected in 1920, with later additions commemorating the fallen of the Second World War. Reasons for Designation: Historic interest - as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on this local community, and the sacrifice it has made in the conflicts of the C20;
Architectural interest - as a simple, yet poignant Latin cross; Group value - with the adjacent All Saints Church, listed at Grade II+ (B5).
