Description

A chalk floor surface encountered in Trench 2 during evaluation trial trenching by JMHS in October 2010 was probably a yard surface not seen on any historic OS maps. Pottery dating to the 19th century was found within this surface. No buildings are shown in this area on a late 18th century plan of the riding house and service buildings, which would suggest that this chalk surface was used as a yard surface rather than a surface within a building (B20).
