Description

Milestone at site of old toll gate. Proposed for inclusion on local list (B1).
Milestone 9 on BUWY route recorded on Milestones Society website (ID number BU_WYAY09). In hedge behind footpath, by electricity pole on west side of A4010 Aylesbury Road at junction with Beech Court. A roughly shaped stone 36cm wide, 19cm deep and 61cm high. Inscription 'Aylesbury 7 1/2 /Wycombe 9/ Risborough 1/2'. Present in 2002. [Description, location and photograph] (B2).

'Toll Bar' marked on Bryant's county map of 1825 (B4).
In Peter Gullands extensive study of The Tll Roads of Buckinghamshire 1706-1881 and connections into neighbouring counties 2017. This milemarker was on the princes Risborouh and Thame tornpike roadmostle A4001 today had 3 brances. [Copy in HER] (B5)
