Description

Traces of village enclosure. Ditch & bank still formidable at NW side. Distinct traces of the ring-fence remain about the village site. Cublinghton known to have been transferred to a new, unfenced site c.1400, when such stockades no longer needed (B4-5).
Scale & location suggest probably part of bailey (B12,B16).

A probable medieval bailey boundary ditch is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as an earthwork and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 390 metres WNW of manor Farm in Cublington and centred at SP 83293 22259, a curving ditch up to 7 metres wide extends SSW-NE for 109 metres. It is located about 105 metres W of a medieval motte mound. On aerial photographs taken in 2022 and recent remote sensing data, the earthwork ditch remains visible (17-21).
