Description

Milestone. Proposed for inclusion on local list (B1).
Present on Milestones Society updated survey website in 2003 on Thame to Risborough route National ID number BU_THRI04. On wide verge between path and fence, on south side of A4129 at Ray Farm. 30cm wide X 28cm deep and 96cm high. Inscription 'Thame 4/ Oxford 18' and 'Risboro 2 1/2 / Wycombe 11'. ' Newly repainted in gothic script '.

Confirmed by handwritten notes on microfiched OSD Surveyors Drawings (1814) and Bryant 1'' (1835) were in Bucks County Museum now in Centre for Bucks Studies. Museum number xxxvii sheet 37. Aston Sandford to PR. Risborough (J5). ' M S' at this grid reference no inscription recorded. In same notes under ' J5 Milestones on Ground'. NGR 779 061 Longwick (Reay Farm) no number on 1" OS 1835. Poor state: stone milestone: Facing 2 ways: No original marks. Painted Thame 4 . Oxford 18. / Ris 2 1/2 Wyc. 11. ( Sketch below. Nr Ray Farm ). Sketch annotated NGR 779 061 Square stone milestone facing 2 ways: painted on letters. Sloping top for drainage. Inscription THAM E4 OXFORD 18 on L face: Risboro 2 1/2 Wycombe 11 on R face.
